New Zealand Missionary Journey
Dear Friends,
Our missions work in New Zealand was wonderful as people were so friendly and open to the gospel. On our two-month journey, we drove all over the country ministering at churches, retreat centers and Youth With A Mission campuses.
Here is the route we followed as we ministered throughout the country. These are LARGE islands and we spent a lot of time on the road, driving on the left hand side and Juan shifted the manual transmission with his left hand the whole time!
Our last ministry opportunity on the North Island was a Saturday morning workshop on Mercy Ministry at a church in New Plymouth, New Zealand called Te Awa (The River Church). As we concluded, the congregation brainstormed in small groups how they could serve the needy in their community. We also spoke at the Sunday morning service and at the end, one of the elders spontaneously performed a Haka (a native Maori ceremonial chant) as a blessing over us which was very moving.
Our first ministry stop on the South Island of New Zealand was YWAM Nelson. We were blessed to lead a powerful night of worship and teaching for the students attending the Discipleship Training School. Afterwards, these missionary students went to serve and minister in Uganda, Africa and Australia!
We spent the bulk of our time training and giving one-on-one care to the wonderful missionary staff who serves there full-time. The leadership asked Mombo to teach on The Biblical Case For Women In Ministry Leadership and the two of us taught a 3-day workshop on Building A Healthy Missionary Team.
YWAM Queenstown is located in the extreme sports capital of the country. They use that opportunity to operate an Extreme Discipleship Training School that involves snowboarding along with Bible teaching and missionary training.
We loved our time training this Queenstown team of young leaders from around the world. Right after we concluded, the missionary students headed out for two months of outreach in Papua New Guinea!
Our 30th anniversary was at the end of 2022, but we decided to wait to celebrate it while we were in New Zealand by knocking off a location on Mombo’s bucket list. We took a boat ride on the Milford Sound and enjoyed a day hike on the Milford Track. It was a beautiful place to celebrate our love!
When we returned back to our YWAM base in the Pacific Islands, Mombo spoke to a team of 50 young people called the Kokua Crew. She gave a powerful word about repentance and prayed over the young people who came forward to respond to what the Holy Spirit was calling them to.
One young woman who heard Mombo speak that night came to share with her later how much she had been impacted by the message. At a key turning point, when she was making a life changing decision, God knew exactly what she needed to hear.
For three days, we gave a special workshop for new missionaries. These young leaders were from different YWAM ministries such as End Bible Poverty Now, Primary Healthcare School, Foundations of Education School, and YWAM Ships (medical outreach to isolated islands.)
PLEASE PRAY NOW
